Sedation Dentistry
More than 50% of the U.S. citizens don’t make regular visits to a dentist, and for many the reason is fear. In most cases, the longer you wait, the more involved and expensive the process becomes to fix your problems. You do not have to visit your dentist in terror – Hollymead Dental is proud to offer two methods of sedation dentistry in Charlottesville.
IV Sedation and Oral Conscious Sedation
You’ve probably heard a lot of dentists mention “sleep dentistry” or “twilight sleep” in referencing either IV or oral sedation. Sedation dentistry does not actually put you “to sleep” at all. You actually remain conscious during the sedation, able to understand and respond to requests from your Charlottesville dentist.
For most people, IV/Oral sedation induces a feeling of deep relaxation. Secondly, conscious sedation can produce partial or full memory loss (amnesia) for the duration of the drug’s effectiveness. This induces the feeling that time is passing very quickly and is usually the reason people feel as if they were asleep.
IV sedation is accomplished by starting an IV, while oral conscious sedation is accomplished using similar medications in tablet form. You must consult with your Charlottesville dentist to decide which method would work best for you.
